Getting Back to Normal Here....

A House in My Town
This is not a picture of my house. It is just a lovely home in my town. I was quite taken with it. I thought you might be too! I am finally back to painting and it feels great. I just posted a new painting for auction on Ebay. http://tinyurl.com/3utg7sz It ends next Thursday the first.

It is a weird time of year....

It is like we hardly know what to do with ourselves.  School hasn't started but, a lot of fall activities have.   We are trying to gear up for next year while not wanting to let go of the summer. It was glorious.

I am working on a new website devoted to all American Folk Art. What it is, it's history, famous artists and contemporary artists, and galleries. It will be very comprehensive. Like nothing that is available already. Not promoting my work just American Folk Art.  Let me know what you would like to see there.

The picture above is a scene from my husbands last fishing trip to Canada.

Painting Dreaming Painting Dreaming.....

I had a wonderful weekend visiting some childhood haunts of mine. It was a lot of fun sharing them with my kids. It brought back many feelings of my childhood of freedom. I know it is weird because, I didn't have much freedom as a child. Now I know that I did. The freedom of stress, worry and fear. It was a time to just enjoy the day. Each day is a gift. This week I am going to try to capture that feeling of freedom. This painting takes me back there.

Where has the time gone?????

I am happy to be back in the studio painting. Sometimes I think I get bored or less than motivated painting the same type of painting all the time, no matter how well received they are. When this happens I always start crafting or painting something totally different. This time it was ghosts and buttons. Then, like clock work, I find myself drawn to the primitive folk art again. What is meant to be, shall be. It feels good to be selling paintings again. Blessings, Kori

I have been busy, busy, busy here at the studio

Take a look at this. I just had this divine inspiration to do something different this week for my big painting.  I really don't know how it will go over but, I really love it.  The hand with the eye in it represents reality. What we see and feel using our brains. The mother and baby inside the heart represents our soul, the purest love that we have is our connection to our Higher Power.  The rose and butterfly represent our spiritual connection to the other side.  It is different than the paintings that I usually do but, the summer is for experimenting for me.  I even used oil paints which is very different for me. I loved it!

This is really something different for me!!!

What I love about this time of year is that I have the time to experiment with different kinds of paintings. My husband is a very active hunting enthusiast.  So, last weekend we visited a skull mount taxidermist. While, my daughter Autumn was picking up her mount. I wondered around a bit.  I found it very interesting seeing all the skulls there lined up together by species. It was just amazing to me to see how alike they were but, at the same time so different and intricate. Each hole and curve of the bone has a reason. Once again, the organic line is hard at work everywhere. I created this little piece to remember my day.

Primitive Decor Abounds!

Here is what I am working on currently in the studio. Not just the paintings but, I have an idea for creating some hangers for the paintings. This is the one I did yesterday but, it seems a little flimsy.
I got the idea from my friend and artist Julie-Ann Bowden. If you have been following me for a while you know that I love Julie's work. I am saving to buy a commission from her. I am going to try something different today with the hangers. However, I am have a hard time getting anything done with all the end of the year activities with the kids.  I can't wait to have more time to work.

I did finally finish my first halloween piece of the season that I talked about in my last blog post. It is for sale on Ebay now ending on June 14th at 10:30 am Est.  I am still very excited to get things going for Halloween but, I am also having to roll some items out for Christmas as I will be advertising in the Country Sampler December issue.

This piece I think looks a little better with the hanger. Both the pieces are for sale at my Etsy Shop. Please check it out for better images.
Love to you all,
Kori

Okay, I can't wait anymore!!! I love primitive HALLOWEEN!

That must be why I have joined the group AHQU. Standing for Artistic Halloween Queens Unite. Here is our bootique!

But seriously, I know that summer just started (not officially) but, I can't wait for to start painting Halloween paintings. I love the feel of Halloween. To me it is the night that you can be whatever you want to be. I have never been one the bought into the whole scary, ghouls, zombies with fake blood thing. After all, who wants to dress up in something that is not going to make you look better!

So anyway, I just wanted to give you a sneak peek at my very first Halloween painting! A work in progress....

New Blog for Primitive Decor Lovers

I wanted to start a blog that highlights and inspires more primitive decor. I will keep this blog for my artwork and the new blog www.paintingprimitives.com will be more with my adventures. Each week, I will visit a Primitive Decor Shop in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas and feature it in my blog.
I feel that this will be great for everyone, my followers and the shop owners.  It gives the followers more ideas for displaying primitive decor and the owners free exposure.

This is the shop that I featured last week. It is the Canal Country Cupboard in beautiful, Saltsburg Pa.

This is my painting displayed with my purchases from the Canal Country Cupboard!

New Images Added to the Instant Download Library

I created this little painting some time ago. It is an example of the kind of painting that I want to get back to painting very soon. There was a story behind everything that was in the painting.  See what you can figure out. I would love to hear what you might think is going on!
Stay weird, Kori

Primitive Decor on the cheap

This weeks blog I want to talk a little about a new service that I am offering at my website  That is instant art downloads. Imagine the possibilities in being able to download a high quality image to your desktop and printing it right from your printer in whatever size and quantity that you need.

This is such a money saving break through for artists and their collectors everywhere. Why pay the middle man (the printer, the mailman)? The costs involved in printing at home has also become more affordable.   Check out Cartridge World to find some cheap ink in your area.

Every week I will make more images available so be sure to follow me on facebook, twitter, or here on my blog.

Hopefully, I will be able to do a regular feature with them. If you are interested in more information about my paintings please check out my website

Working away...

This is what I am working on for Sunday. I finished the small quilt painting that I was working on last week which will be posted tonight on EBay.   Jesse's Tree that I posted a couple days ago is not for sale.  I am having a lot of fun in the studio this week because, I am working on a class schedule for my drawing class. I want to include a lot of the exercises included in "Drawing on the Right side of the BRain" by Betty Edwards. This book has made the connection from the brain to the paper.  I can't wait to share this with my classes.
I am still working on starting the online drawing "skype" classes. They should be up an running by the fall.

My new adventure!

This is a picture I made years ago featuring my nephew Jesse. Jesse just celebrated his twenty first birthday on Sunday. So I went down to visit with him in his new bachelor pad.  This might all seem very normal except for the fact that Jesse is severely mentally and physically retarded. He has been in a wheel chair and totally dependent on other people his entire life. He doesn't know any other way to be.   When I drew this picture, I wanted it to be a representation of what Jesse was probably doing in his mind at the time. You see he has very little communication skills. So, I always wondered what was going on in there.   Was he dreaming of jumping and playing outside?

I guess I will never know. He lives in a group home now, with three other guys. He seems very happy there.  I seriously worry a lot less about him than I do any of my other nephews and kids. He is very well taken care of and safe.  When you sit with him, I think you get the communication that you need. Life is more simple than you think. In some ways he has already achieved many of our goals in life, a carefree lifestyle, hanging out with your buddies and freedom from financial worries.  God is good. All the time. God is good.

My dream is to be able to teach other kids what Jesse knows. How to bring your thoughts to life outside your mind. Get that down on paper. I think the most primal way to do that is to draw it. It seems simple but, often isn't. We get caught up in what other people think. Jesse doesn't have that problem. He just doesn't care. We are burden sometimes with caring, too much. Which may be something that we can create from to share with others.

What is to become of me....

If you haven't checked it out already please take a look at my brand new site at moonfruit. I wanted to redo it to be able to offer more services. Also, if I can be truthful. I can't resist those flash options.  So, darn cute.
Lately, I have been doing a lot of design work which is a nice change but, I can't seem to shake my need to express myself without boundaries like I can with my FOLK ART.  Granted that when I say that it probably brings to mind Avant-garde and edgy artwork; Pushing the boundaries of the moralities.  Well that might be the true expressions for some people but, not me. I think "Erin" from NBC's "The Office" expresses it right when she said that her favorite parts of scary and sci-fi movies is in the beginning when every one is happy and life is perfect. Give me all the happiness and none of the sad. I know that is not how life is but, it can be that way in my paintings.
Here is a "work in progress" for Thursday. I am very happy with the changes taking place at Ebay. From what I can understand. It is more of a you only pay if it sells. If that is true, you will be seeing a lot more paintings from me.

My Oh My!!!

It sure has been a while since I have posted! That is not normal for me. I did have a major meltdown of my beloved Mac though.  Oh how I loved and still love that computer.
Two weeks ago, as I was out doing the supportive mother thing, my husband decided to use my computer. This is not permitted.  He found the keys laden with some sort of sticky substance (syrup) which is another no, no. Blake!
My dear husband decided to clean it for me. I don't know why, he never wants to clean anything else! He did so by pressing down on all the keys on the keyboard while it was on.  Needless to say, I had a very quirky computer when I arrived home.
I am glad that Mike broke it because at least he has the money to buy me a new one!
Here are a couple of paintings I am working on for this week. The house painting is a new take on an old design for me. I heavily textured the canvas before painting to make the painting look as though it has movement to it; like it is in motion.
The top painting is a oldie but, a goodie for me. My followers really seem to enjoy this primitive folk art style and I love painting them.  I match made in heaven.
Until next time,
Kori

Georgia O'Keeffe in New Mexico

As I was getting a drawing lesson for my class this Friday, I came across this wonderful video on Youtube. I enjoyed so much hearing and seeing the artistic legend. I am not much of a desert lover but, in this video you can see why she loved it so much. Desert land, bones and flowers, her love was with the organic shape, designed solely by God. I love the idea of simplifying, loving the contour line. I try to pack so much information in each of my paintings for the most impact. It would be very meditative to incorporate this ease into my pieces this week.

Dear Diary - by Shelly Bedsaul from Folk Art gallery

Dear Diary - by Shelly Bedsaul from Folk Art gallery: "Dear Diary - by Shelly Bedsaul from Folk Art gallery"
I really enjoyed this piece from an artist from Topeka, Kansas. What I really like about it is the details that
she used. She creates a warm feeling of a leisurely morning spent pouring your heart out in your diary and
simmering them with some tea. The lines and patterns keep it visually more interesting. Another thing that I
enjoy is the back story. Shelly contends that the invention of blogs and the internet has diminished the proper
use of the written word. I have to agree. If I read one more Facebook post from one of my many nieces and
nephews with more misspelled words than correctly spelled words, I will scream!!! They say they don't care
because they were just in a hurry but, I am really beginning to wonder!
Thanks for the awesome painting, Shelly!
You can find many more paintings by Shelly at EBsqart.com

Tinker - by Cindy Bontempo (GOSHRIN) from Flowers

Tinker - by Cindy Bontempo (GOSHRIN) from Flowers: "Art 'Tinker' - by Cindy Bontempo (GOSHRIN) from Flowers"

I have been a member of EBSQart for years now and I never really found a lot of use for it. I have recently checked it out and was happy with the amount of folk art that I found there. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of crap there too. It looks like someone has posted a lot of child's sketches. I guess there is nothing wrong with that but, it ticks me off.

However, I found this lovely artist from cancer survivor Cindy Bontempo of Wisconsin. She is a delight. I love the contrast of color and black in her work. It really jumps off the canvas. She also has a lot of variety in her work that is nice to see. I really love her florals. If your looking for something new to add to your folk art collection, spend some time in Cindy's gallery this week.

Big Wonderful World: An original painting by Christina Colwell

I found this today on Flickr. Christina has a lot of interesting pieces at her site. She does it all, from mosaics to collage, if you are into to whimsical daydreaming as much as I am, you will throughly enjoy this talented artist!
