I love all kinds of Folk art. I don't believe that art can be taught. It is inside you and it is all around us.

Beauty - Original Folk Art Painting
This is really cute. Inspirational psalm in the background. Very different style.
Merry Christmas to ALL!!!

I had to wait until Christmas to share this little piece with you because it was a commission that I did for a very sweet man as a surprise for his wife. I didn't want to spoil it just in case, she was subscribed to my blog. I just love the homey feel of it. As though, you are ready to cozy up in the chair with a book and some "Sleepy time " tea.
I have taken a couple of weeks off of painting to get ready for Christmas but, I am more than ready to start 2011 covered in paint. Such is the norm for me. So get ready to see some new an exciting changes coming to my work. I am going to add some new collaging and sewing techniques to change it up a bit. I also I want to make the setting more the 1940's to 1950's rather than the normal colonial time period. I love the fashions during that time.
I am also hoping to featuring some of my daughters' work in the upcoming year. My daughter Autumn is a talented jewelry maker and Alyssa is trying her luck with some collaging. So, make sure you are subscribed to this blog so you can have the updates delivered right to your email address.
Merry Christmas and God's Blessings to all!

The Wild Flower Goddess by Dee Sprague
The purpose of this blog is to discuss current trends in folk art and highlight artists that I come across that I are exceptional. I feel I have gotten away from that lately because I have been so busy in the studio. I am taken advantage of this Christmas break so that I can have some time to explore the wild wild web!
Finally, after wading through the clog of average work out there, I came across this little gem. I just love Dee's work. It has a story book feel to it that you could just get lost in. It seems as though the flowers are actually swaying in the breeze. She paints with such purpose. The feel is sublime.
Please, spend a little time in "Dee's world" over the holiday. You will be glad you did. Thanks Dee for sharing this wonderful folk art with us!!!

I am spent...
I am sorry everyone. It has been a crazy week here and I am way behind on commissions and shipments. This Christmas has gotten away from me. It is this time every year I start to think, I am never going to get everything done. In fact, I can't. Something has to give and this year it is new paintings. I probably won't have any new paintings until 2011. I am totally buried right now with commissions which is the way I like it. At the same time, I look forward to being able to paint more freely.
Merry Christmas and Joy to the world!!!!! Kori

I had a little time on my hands....
What a wonderful weekend!!! We stayed close to the house to let the kids recoup from their various illnesses. I finished this piece that I painted last year. I stopped the painting in mid paint, so to speak. It started as a acrylic paint on canvas. Then, to change things up a little, I used colored pencils on paper to make the skaters. I wanted to make it a little more interesting. Then, I affixed the paper to the background. At that point, it was just two trees, the sky and the clothesline with a heart. For a year it sat in my studio like that......... What to do, What to do? ......... Today, I was feeling it. I put in a house a fence, dog, and some mittens and we have a story. The story is "Firsts." This is their first house, first winter, first skate, and first dog. The firsts in life aren't always the best but, they are memorable. Hopefully, for these two, the first is magical!!!! The original painting is for auction on EBay right now under my id "mylittlecornerdesign" Check it out!

Summer Fun
I have been working on this painting for a while and I just posted it for sale on Ebay last night. It was so nice to work with a piece that everyone wasn't stuck in layers of clothing. All of the children in the scene even have bare feet! I can just feel it!
I will be painting my weekend away! Which is just fine with me! I have been really busy with family things for the past week. So, I wasn't able to get a lot of work done. Except, the regular graphic design stuff. I do both the folk art painting and graphic design work with my business. It is hard to decide which I like more. I love the painting but, the graphic design work I can actually do right in my bed watching tv! My husband won't let me paint in the bed. anymore.....
Have a great weekend all!!!!

New to website....
I have added a few new paintings to the "Store" at my website. Please take some time to check it out! This painting is one of them 11x14 acrylic on canvas.
In the studio this week, I am busy getting ready for Thanksgiving an working on some commissions. I hope to get these commissions out by Christmas so the heat is on. If you are interested in a commission for Christmas this will be the last week to get them in. Some exceptions can be made if possible but, no guarantees.
We have a lot to be thankful for her at My Little Corner Design. It has been a lucrative year for us and we are very thankful for being able to make a living doing what we love. Thank you all!!!

What kind of people????
This is a piece that I am working on to place for sale at my website. I am not selling it cheap on EBay so, I can afford to take a little more time to add lots and lots of detail. This is what I love, the detail. However, I am having a hard time figuring out what kind of people I want to include and what they would be doing. I have a black lab, some swans, and a horse drinking from the lake already. What else should I include? Let me know if you have any ideas.

In the studio
Isn't this a great time of year? This weekend we are looking forward to light up night in a nearby town. Excitement is in the air! I haven't even started shopping or thinking about it. So here I sit painting the day away. What could be better?
These paintings listed above are two paintings that will be listed in separate auctions. Probably, this Sunday. I am not sure. I may list them tonight. I will be painting two more paintings this week to place on my website. I can't decide if I should go with a winter scene or a spring/summer. Let me know what you think.

In the air on Tuesday
Today, it is back to the studio for a walk down memory lane. I painted a similar piece a couple of months back and decided to do something different from the winter scenes I have been doing lately. I feel like I am snowed in, for all the winter paintings I have done already. Don't get me wrong, I still am in "deep" with my winter scenes. I just wanted to do something different. A little break from the storm so to speak.

I just wanted to post this...
I just love this little painting. It only measures 11x14 so I kept it simple. We spent a lot of the day cleaning in the studio today and then after a simple dinner of chicken, cheese and broccoli, we celebrated with a lively game of paper airplane races. At which, I lost miserably. Alas, tomorrow is another day and another craft fair, yippee! This painting will list Sunday 7PM Est. and will run for seven day. Find it on EBay under my ID "Mylittlecornerdesign"

When will the snow come????
It is rather quiet here for a weekday. The kids are off school so, the quiet always worries me. They must be up to something..... I suppose I should just stay up here where it is safe and happy. Painting silly snow men. It is coming you know, the snow.
This painting will be done Thursday and posted on EBay Sunday. Check it out with my ID "My Little Corner Design"

In the studio....
I am so happy to be back in the studio. I have been working a lot on design work and have missed my paint brushes. I have to admit that I talk to them, like Rachel Ray talks to her food as she is cooking it. Funny but, true. I have my favorites and they know who they are.
This week I am working on a lot of winter scenes. Some sled riding, snow man making, and an snow angel playing are in order. These paintings are the most fun to paint. I especially love the frolicking!
The painting above is no done yet but, there is enough done for you to get the idea. I am going to add more birds to fill the it out. The finished piece will be up for auction on Ebay on Thursday. Look for it under my id "mylittlecornerdesign."

...and I am a moron!!!!
No offense to the Mormon religion. I enjoy the commercials really, especially the one with the artist mother. No, I only mean to be self deprecating. I am such an idiot!
Today, after finishing this cute little painting, I decided to take a photo of it to share with everyone. I set the painting on the floor in my living room and opened the drapes to let the natural light flow in. As I was bending over to take the shot, I actually dropped my camera on the painting!!!! I would not have thought it would have done much damage but, it actually tore the canvas! If you look close at the picture on the left right by the pine tree you can see the tear. Also, there is a little indentation to the left that will go away eventually.
What is wrong with my brain? or my central nervous system?!!! God only knows! I can at least patch up the canvas and keep it for myself. Now, I will have to repaint the painting this weekend. There goes my friday night!!!!

Dog Gone!!!
Okay, one nice thing about doing commissions is that I can reuse the layout for another painting. Believe it of not , sometimes it is hard to come up with new ideas for layouts. So thank you, Naomi, for giving new life to an old design. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Naomi's painting was based on an old painting of mine from my gallery entitled "Doggie Time." I think it is cute. What do you think?

Canadian Fun
This is a commission that I am working on for our neighbors to the north. I think that it is coming along rather well. The client loves it but, would like to add boats in the background. I will happily be creating them. I love when the client and I can work together to make the painting even better.
Some of you may not have heard from me in a while. My schedule has taken on a life of her own with family obligations, commission work;0), and my yoga certification process. However, I am back now trying desperately to hold on to my beloved schedule. Next week, should run a lot smoother after the holiday. So keep a look out for more pieces and more contact. I may even throw in a newsletter to let you all know the nuts and bolts of the business workings, 'til we meet again, Kori

Snow Day!
Well the weather, she is a changing! It is for me as usual a bittersweet farewell. I love the chill in the air at night and a nice toasty fire to cuddle by. However, what I don't care for is being COLD! I hate being cold. Here in Western Pa. there is no getting around it. It is coming. I love the snow. I could play in it all day until I get COLD! It never fails. No matter how I prepare for the cold. Sometime, somewhere, it finds me. Well until, it does. I will look at this painting and remember the fun of the first snow fall. There is nothing better.

Until, then please enjoy this little beauty for auction now on EBay. I will also have prints available on Etsy for $12.00 with no shipping.

I am one proud mama!
I have had one busy week trying to keep up with my growing family, two trips to the vet., one to doctors, education meeting at church, open house at the elementary and a trip to the groomers. It is only Tuesday. Definitely, enough to leave this art mom little frazzled. But alas, a bright spot in the clouds. Above is a picture that my son Blake colored. His is the one on the far right (the really good one!) Yippe! At least one of my kids takes after me!!! He is only six!

Autumn Play
This is the painting I created with the pictures that I posted earlier this week.. You see, I am not going for realistic. I am going for the feel of the things that I have seen. That is what is so wonderful about the folk art movement. It is so free. The minute that you reveal the details of a persons face or the exact look of a home, you can alienate some of your audience. I like to relate the FEEL of a fall day in a quaint little country landscape with kids frolicking without a care in the world.

Wonderful Weekend!
Wow, I had a extremely fun and inspirational weekend in Philly at the Women of Faith Conference. I have been lucky enough to attend three years in a row but, this year was very special because my daughter was able to accompany me. The weekend was full of laughter and happy tears. So much inspiration. I couldn't wait to get back to my easel on Monday morning.
People ask me all the time where I get the ideas to make each painting so different. So I thought I would post some pictures that inspired me over the weekend passing through rural central PA. The rolling hill always create a happy feeling in me. Which is very evident in my work.

The clouds were just so round an fluffy and the sky so blue. I had to use this in a painting.
I also admired the subtle majesty of this church.
I love the different kinds of barns in PA. I saw some really beautiful ones! Here is one that I could get to my camera fast enough to capture.

Inspiration
People ask me all the time where I get the ideas for my paintings. Well, that is something that has never been hard for me to find because, it is all around me. Small towns have always fascinated me. As a child my father was a candy wholesaler. He would have routes all over western Pennsylvania. All of the kids had to take turns going with him to work. It was kind of a hated chore but, it did have it's perks. For me, one of them was riding in his big truck and enjoying the townscapes. I loved to see all of the different houses and wondered about the lives of the people inside.
It is funny how things stick with you. I now ride along with my husband and look for eye catching houses. The one pictured above we found on our vacation to Ohio. I know that southern Ohio is not the normal summer escape for people but, we really enjoyed it. Bremen Ohio is one of those towns that has very little commercialism. Similar to a modern day Mayberry, very quaint friendly and clean. I am using a similar house in a painting I am working on now.

Cooper's Cabin
This painting I have been holding on for years. I think the date on it is 2006. It is such a cute little painting, I like to look at it. It reminds me of a quick little weekend jaunt to the wilderness.
Autumn Eve Dance
Just a little diddy for this weeks listing that I am working on. I am not posting any paintings this Thursday because I am going on a little vacation. Hopefully, I will get some great ideas for this falls paintings. Anyway, I will be posting three paintings on Sunday so I will be able to send the paintings out on schedule.

In the moment painting
I finally found something new and different to post. This painting just touches my heart. It is by artist Julie-ann Bowden of the UK. She is quite an established artist painting mostly angels and character pieces. I love the bold colors and patterns she uses. The faces are very endearing also.
Check out her blog where you can download several angel images.

One of my long time favorites....
This blog would not be complete without adding one of my very favorite folk artists, Catherine Holman. Catherine is a very talented folk artist from Excelsior Springs, MO. She has been painting since 1977. I have been an admirer of hers for years. Her style is so crisp and clean. She is an expert of creating dimension in her paintings.
Another thing I enjoy about this artist, is that she writes stories about the "goings on" in her village scenes. Here is an example of one her Christmas village scenes stories:
Frank, the mayor of Richmond, owns the Hungry Mule Cafe where he and his wife Ellie make the most wonderful food in the county. His sister Letha owns the Blue Moon Trading Company and has been dating Hank from the hardware store for 5 years. They are going to be married in front of the Christmas tree in the center of town on Christmas Eve and everyone is invited. This will be the biggest event of the year and people were beginning to think it would never happen. Everyone has done an extra special job of spiffing up the town with evergreen and red bows to help them celebrate this momentous occasion!
No folk art collection could be complete without Catherine Holman. Please treat yourself to some of her yummy paintings.

The Last of the American Folk Arts
This is a very interesting article about the American Folk art. However, I can't see how they can say it was the LAST of the American folk art. As anyone with an internet connection can see, the American Folk artists are alive and well on the wild, wild web.
